Imphal, August 31 2014: Different Tangkhul bodies have condemned the police action in Ukhrul town yesterday in which two persons died and several others injured.

Speaking to reporters at Nagaram community hall, Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long president Grace Shatsang alleged that State security forces not only fired on the rallyists but also beat up passersby.

Grace further alleged that apart from damaging vehicles parked on roadsides, the security forces barged into houses and thrashed many innocent civilians.

The president said that the security forces can't blame the people for missing of arms during the rally.

The State Government has turned a deaf ear to Irom Sharmila and people's demand for repeal of AFSPA only to give extra power to security forces to harrass the common people, Grace added.

The president added that the situation in Ukhrul town would further aggravate if CrPC 144 is not revoked from the town at the earliest.

Somdal Youth Cultural Club has also vehemently condemned the police action in Ukhrul town in which its information secretary M Ngachonmi was critically injured and two others died.

The incident has given a fear psychosis to the people of the town, said a press release.
