Sit-ins back STDCM demand

Sit-in demonstrations continued in different parts of the state on Wednesday to exert pressure on the government of Manipur for sending the recommendation to include Meitei/Meetei in Scheduled Tfibe list of the Indian Constitution.
In support of the demand being spearheaded by the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur (STDCM), a sit-in protest was staged at Wangoo Nongyaikhong Bazar, Sugnu under Kakching district demanding the state government to immediately send the recommendation.
On the other hand, women vendors of markets around Imphal area carried out demonstrations demanding inclusion of the indigenous Meetei/Meitei community in the ST list starting from around 12:30 pm.
The women vendors of Khwairamband temporary market, Singjamei new and temporary market, Kongba market, Kwakeithel market, Khurai Lamlong market and Tera market raised several slogans such as "Save indigenous people (Meitei/Meetei)", ''Save our land" and "Indigenous people must live unitedly" during the protest.
