Cycle rally held against stubble burning

Thoubal, November 12 2021: Voluntary Network for Green Earth, Manipur on Friday organised a cycle rally to raise awareness on stubble burning which is causing air pollution and reducing soil fertility.

The rally was flagged-off by Voluntary Network for Green Earth, Manipur president Laishram Devan from Ikop Ningthou shrine, Khangabok Part 2 and passed through various parts of Khangabok village before it culminated at the starting point.

Speaking to the media, L Devan informed that farmers usually burn the stubble after harvesting the paddy which is not only causing air pollution but also harm the soil fertility and damage plants growing near the field.

Considering this, the government should look into the matter and provide a solution for turning the straws into fertilisers, he added.
