Large quantity of drugs, areca nuts recovered

Assam Rifles recovered a large quantity of narcotic substance, suspected to be Amphetamine (commonly known as WY), during an operation in Shalluk area of Chandel district on August 24.Acting on reliable intelligence, a mobile vehicle check post (MVCP) was set up near Shalluk.
Two individuals travelling on a two-wheeler were stopped and frisked, leading to the recovery of 100 packets (approx 2 kg or 20,000 tablets) of the substance worth Rs 20 lakh from the duo.
The apprehended individuals and seized items were handed over to Chakpikarong police station for further investigation, said a release by PRO IGAR (S).
The PRO also informed that Assam Rifles seized a large quantity of areca nuts on August 24 in Tengnoupal.
During a search operation, a mobile vehicle check post team recovered 20 bags of areca nuts, weighing about 1005 kg, valued at Rs 8,70,000 .
The seized items have been handed over to the customs department for further proceedings, said the PRO in another release.
