Congress slams Shah for dissing Ambedkar

Thoubal District Congress Committee, on Thursday, carried out protest in front of its office in Thou bal against Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on BR Ambedkar, made in Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Parliament Winter Session.
The agitation was led by Committee vice president Kh Muhindro, general secretary (administration) Y Basant and District Mahila Congress Committee president L Nganbi.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the protest, Y Basant condemned Amit Shah's comment, calling it an insult to BR Ambedkar, one of the principal architects of the Indian Constitution, and a challenge to India's democracy.
In response, the Congress unit launched the protest to voice their opposition, demanding resignation of the Union Home minister and apology from Amit Shah over his remark.
In the Rajya Sabha, Amit Shah had stated that Congress leaders would have earned a place in heaven if they had chanted the name of God, rather than following the "fashion of repeating Ambedkar's name" .
