Imphal, December 19 2021: A team of Narcotics Cell, Imphal East apprehended a man with illegal drugs around 12.30 pm Sunday from New Checkon Tribal Market area here.

The arrested man has been identified as Kamlalmon Vaiphei (36) s/o (L) Jamkhongul Vaiphei of M Molhoi village, Churachandpur district.

Around 733 gm of heroin packed in 47 soap cases were seized from his possession.

According to a police report, based on reliable information, a combined team of Narcotics Cell, Imphal East and Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA) conducted a frisking and cheeking operation at New Checkon Tribal Market area.

During the operation, the team came across a suspicious looking man, who after seeing the team, attempted to flee the area but was apprehended by the police.

On checking the black-coloured bag he was carrying, the team found 47 soap cases, each containing heroin totalling 733 gm.

Both the arrested man and the seized items have been handed over to Porompat PS for further course of legal action.
