Imphal, August 09 2022:
Indigenous Peoples Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) observed International Day of the World Indigenous Peoples Day Tuesday at Manipur Press Club here.
IPAK president Kh Somorjit, who was one of the presidium members of the observance function, said that illegal immigrants who entered Manipur taking advantage of similar culture and tradition must be identified under relevant norms of Foreigners Act and take steps to deport them.
He further said that indigenous people of Manipur are being threatened by ever increasing number of outsiders and immigrants who are difficult to identify.
He also said that love and understanding among indigenous people of the land is being distorted as non-indigenous people helped certain indigenous people and incidents that occurred during the recent bandh and blockade were dear example of this unhealthy phenomenon.
According to Somorjit, trust among indigenous people is necessary to bring a developed and concrete society in Manipur and this will bring development in the right perspective.
The event was also attended by IPAK advisor Sapamcha Jadumani, JCILPS former convener Ibotombi Khuman, IPSA president Tourangbam Birjit and ACOAM Lup Kangleipak president Sanjit Soraisham as other presidium members.
