AR observes World Wetlands Day

Directorate of Environment & Climate Change and Komlakhong Youth Development Association organised a series of impactful activities on the occasion of World Wetlands Day 2025 on Sunday.
The observance was held at Loktak Lake, under the theme 'Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future', with a mission to restore and preserve the integrity of wetlands and the environmental ecosystem.
Approximately 250,locals and students participated in series of events, according to PRO IGAR (S) said.
In a release, the PRO informed that the event commenced with a cleanliness drive around Loktak Lake area, where AR personnel, students, and volunteers worked together to ensure the beauty and cleanliness of the wetlands.
It was followed by tree plantation drive aimed at promoting sustainable environmental practices, painting competition for students on wetland conservation and distribution of cash prizes to the top three winners in two categories and consolation prizes to top five students, besides T-shirts and caps to all students and volunteers.
As a part of the event a rally of students was carried out from Moral Guidance School to Loktak Lake, with the participants raising slogans to advocate wetlands conservation.
Officials addressed the gathering, emphasising the critical role of wetlands in sustaining biodiversity and life.
Participants also took a joint pledge to work towards preserving wetlands, added the PRO .
