RIMS doctors aid entrapped Loktak dwellers

Doctors of RIMS Community Medicine Department distributed food items and medicines to fishers residing on the Champu Khangpok Floating Island in Loktak Lake, who have been affected by severe windstorm.
Since July 15, strong winds caused accumulation of thick biomass in Birahari-pat area of Loktak Lake, entrapping residents of Champhu Khangpok floating island.
On request from the residents, doctors of the RIMS department pooled in money for purchase of essential goods including medicine and sanitary items and handed over the same on July 31 for distribution to the entrapped residents.
Soibam Boby Devi, Field Coordinator of the People's Resources Development Association (PRDA), also contributed Rs 3000 towards the relief effort.
The relief materials were handed over to ALLAFUM president Heisnam Arun Kumar and secretary Oinam Rajen by Manipur State Wetland Authority Technical Committee member Salam Rajesh and PRDA held coordinator Soibam Boby Devi for further distribution among the villagers of Champu Khangpok floating island.
