AR foils smuggling of illegal wildlife products, timber

Imphal, February 01 2023:
Tengnoupal Battalion of IGAR (South) foiled cross border smuggling of Pangolin Shells at Khudengthabi village in Tengnoupal district on Tuesday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that based on specific input, an operation was launched in Khudengthabi village area to prevent smuggling of contraband items.
During the operation, 5.190 kg of Pangolin Shells worth Rs 5.19 lakh were recovered.
The recovered wildlife products have been handed over to Forest department, Moreh for further investigation.
Shangshak Battalion of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) also foiled bid to smuggle timber in general area Gamnuom village in Kamjong district on Wednesday.
The troops of Assam Rifles intercepted and seized one Shaktiman truck loaded with illegal timber in general area Gamnuom village evaluated to be worth Rs 1.28 crore.
The seized timber along with apprehended smugglers and vehicles has been handed over to Forest department, Kamjong for further legal action.
