Fishers appeal Govt to waive loans

Fishermen of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Kakching districts, whose farms were inundated in the recent floods, have urged the state government to waive their loans.
Briefing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Sunday, JAC Fishery Cooperative Societies of 4 Districts of Manipur convenor K Nabachandra said that the Covid-19 pandemic followed by the conflict and subsequent floods hit-hard farmers, who were preparing to take up pisciculture projects with loans procured under the NCDC.
With the recent rainfall turning the fish farms into large swathe of water and fish escaping, the farmers are facing huge economic loss and staring at an uncertain future.
As such, he appealed to the government to waive the loans of the farmers of the Society who have been affected by the natural calamity.
