Imphal, June 22 2021:
Khomdram Sahiba and David Huirem of Manipur Dog Lovers apologised for uploading a picture of a dog wearing Khamen Chatpa, one of the most revered and important pieces of Manipuri tradition.
Khomdram Sahiba had uploaded the image on the Facebook group Manipur Dog Lovers and was approved by its admin David Huirem, which was received with an outrage by netizens of Manipur for allegedly shaming the tradition and culture of Manipur.
Regarding the incident, both the individuals were given counselling by members of DESAM, Federation of Haomee, KIMACS and Kanglei Yakaibung Kangleipak and were told not to repeat the same.
In a statement jointly issued by the organisations today, Khomdram Shahiba apologised for his unthoughtful act and promised not to repeat the same in future.
David Huirem also apologised for approving the post without due consideration of the outcome and assured that such incidents will not be repeated.
Both the individuals also thanked the members of the organisations for all the advice given with good intentions.
The joint statement also added that the post has been removed from the group and also appealed to everyone not to share copy of the same as it will render all the effort useless and will further aid in creating confusions and outrage amongst the netizen communities.
