Imphal, August 09 2022: With the stated objective to safeguard identity and uplift living standard of the indigenous people of Manipur, an organisation christened "League of Indigenous People" has been formed.

Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, its convenor Moirangthem Rakeshna informed that the League has been formed under the theme 'To protect and preserve identity" and its office will function near Essar Oil Pump, Luwangsangbam in Imphal West district.

He said that the League will work in close tandem with indigenous communities which have their own scripts, language and clan system, while informing that a meeting will be held very soon to elect the executive members.

While informing about initiation of process for compilation of fact files to identify the indigenous people and submission of a memorandum to the Prime Minister, the convenor also appealed to the public to support the organisation and its activities for safeguard of rights of the indigenous people.
