Jiribam, June 25 2022:
With neighbouring state Assam facing a major flood situation, scarcity of petrol has hit Jiribam district with all retail outlets displaying 'petrol nil' signs from Friday onwards.
According to manager of a retail outlet in Jiribam, the reason for unavailability of petrol in the border district is the flood situation in Assam.
His outlet used to get petrol from Ramnagar oil depot in Assam but the area has been flooded and the stock at his pump has depleted.
Until the flood recedes in Assam, there is no hope of bringing in fuel from Assam, he said.
Meanwhile, people have been forced to buy petrol from the black market at Rs 150 to Rs 200 per litre.
Expressing concern over the situation, several sections of the public are drawing attention of the government for resolving the problem.
