XIIth Festival of Thang-Ta held

Goodwill Foundation for Culture, a centre for performing arts on Friday organised the "XIIth Festival of Thang-Ta" at Irilbung High School, Imphal East district.
The festival was conducted under the aegis of Cultural Function and Production Grant Scheme (CFPGS), Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Padmashri Guru K Shanathoiba Sharma, Sangeet Natak Awardee; Th Bhubol Singh, president, Goodwill Foundation for Culture and Nongthombam Nilakumar Singh, Head Master, Irilbung High School.
The festival began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by a welcome address by Th Joykumar Singh, secretary, Goodwill Foundation for Culture.
Speaking at the occasion, Guru K Shanathoiba highlighted that Thang-Ta, the indigenous art form which holds great significance to the history and culture of the State is gaining popularity beyond the State as well.
Elaborating on the multiple benefits of practicing Thang-Ta regularly, he maintained that practicing Thang-Ta not only leads to a healthy lifestyle but also helps in instilling discipline.
Guru K Shanathoiba also stressed on the need for collective effort to promote & preserve the culture and traditional arts forms of Manipur.
