Legal notices sent to MAHUD commissioner, director

Imphal, November 19 2021: Legal notices have been sent to the Commissioner and the director of Municipal Administration, Housing & Urban Development (MAHUD) over the appointment of MAHUD director as the administrator of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC).

The legal notice filed by one Heisnam Geetabali of Koirengei Bazar through counsel/advocate Usham Augusta, stated that the election to 27 wards of the IMC could not be held due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the term of councillors of the Corporation expired on June 15 this year, the director of MAHUD was appointed as the administrator of IMC for a period of 6 months.

Presently, there is belief that the election could be held within a short period of time.

Owing to the present situation, Section 205 of MM Act 1994, which is in effect, is no longer practical.

Thus, it is against the law to appoint the MAHUD director as IMC administrator.

Thus, the legal notice pushed for formation of an ad hoc committee or council of administrator ahead of the IMC elections.
