Court convicts rape accused

Imphal, January 18 2022:
The court of Special Judge (POCSO) Senapati on Tuesday convicted a man accused of raping a minor last year.
According to a report filed by the rape survivor's father at Kangpokpi police station on July 7, 2020; Santosh Limbu (22) s/o Tej Bahadur of Thonglang Akutpa (17 Miles) in Kangpokpi district raped his 12-year-old girl.
Based on the report, Kangpokpi PS registered a case under POCSO Act and conducted an investigation.
As part of the investigation, the statement of the victim was taken, wherein it was found that on June 2 of the same year, the accused forcefully detained the victim while she was out herding the livestock and sexually assaulted her.
Accused Limbu was found hiding in Mahabir Village and was arrested on June 9 .
On Tuesday, after listening to arguments of both sides and carefully examining the evidences and medical reports submitted by the prosecution, the Court held Limbu guilty of the crime under Section 6 of POCSO Act, 2012 .
It will pronounce the quantum of punishment to be given on
January 21 .
