Sit-in demands ST status for Meitei Pangal

Imphal, February 01 2023: As a part of its ongoing movement, Meitei Pan gal Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee staged sit-in demonstration at Kwakta Keithel in Bishnupur on Wednesday demanding inclusion of Meitei Pangal in the ST list.

Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, Committee vice president Khulakpam Haji Arafat contended that Meitei Pangal is the most underdeveloped community among all communities living in both the hills and valley of the state.

There is no other means to save Meitei Pangal community other than their inclusion in the ST list, he added.

He made it clear that the ongoing movement will continue by joining hands with the people until Meitei Pangal is included in the ST list.

After staging the sit-in, the committee submitted a memorandum to Moirang A/C MLA Thongam Shanti Singh seeking his support to demand of the Meitei Pangal.
