154th birthday of Sister Nivedita observed

The 154th birth anniversary of Sister Nivedita was observed on October 28 as Shakti Samarpan Day by Manipur Shakti, an organisation working for the uplift of women through Science and technolpgy applications.
In a release, Manipur Shakti convenor Asha Gupta informed that Sister Nivedita was a disciple of Swami Vivekananda who promoted Indian arts and the education to Indian women and also supported Swadeshi movement that called for boycott of imported British goods in favour of domestically produced handmade goods.
Dr Gayathri Subramanian Srinivas, who is founder of English Guidance at Chandrapur in Maharashtra, attended the event as chief guest and she delivered a speech on Sister Nivedita's life and works while National Shakti organising secretary Bindu Suraj explained that samarpan diwas is important for Shakti so as to devote their lives for the cause of holistic women education.
Dr Asha Gupta also deliberated a lecture on Sister Nivedita's keen interest in promoting science, cukure, Indian history and literature.
She also talked about the social reformer and her role in the freedom struggle of India, her love for science reflected in the support rendered to JC Bose for his publications who faced lot of discrimination from British.
Nivedita served India till her last breath, she noted.
The function was attended by educationists and Shakti members.
