Fingerlings distributed, fishers form association

As the first step towards making Manipur self-reliant in fish production by increasing the number of fish rearing ponds, Yelhou Ngamee Lup has started providing fingerlings to fish farmers and releasing of fin gerlings in ponds.
According to a statement of Yelhou Ngamee Lup, the fishermen's body was formed with the main objective of enhancing fish production and ensure a healthy society with consumption of local and fresh fish.
Another objective of the body is to improve economy of the state by preventing outflow of huge expenditure incurred on importing iced fish from outside.
On the other-hand, under the aegis of All Manipur United Fish Farmers' Association (AMUFFA), a new body christened "Bishnupur District United Fish Farmers' Association" has been formed on Sunday in a meeting held at Ima Phouoibi Lairembi Shanglen, Keibul Lamjao in Bishnupur district.
The programme was attended by AMUFFA president Mayengbam Bimolchand as chief guest in the presence of AMUCO assistant secretary N Loken Mangang, UCOBID president W Basanta and senior citizen T Raghu.
During the programme, 15 executive members of the new association were also elected.
