PPE suit found discard on Imphal-Ukhrul roadside

Imphal, June 16 2021: A PPE suit believed to have been used by healthcare service provider was found discarded on the side of Imphal-Ukhrul road near Kangla Sangomshang junction and this has created panic among locals and farmers working in nearby paddy fields.

According to a report received here, the used PPE suit was detected by some farmers who went to work in their paddy fields early Wednesday morning.

Expressing concern over such unregulated disposal of the used PPE suit, some locals and farmers said that throwing PPE suit haphazardly was in total disregard of strict measures being taken up by the government to contain COVID-19 pandemic and this might abet spread of the virus.

They also appealed to authority concerned to take steps to avoid such incidents in future.

Mention may be made here that similar incident had happened at the same site in the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic last year.
