Imphal, April 11 2022:
Amidst the demand for releasing pending honorariums of 19 months for mid-day meal cooks, Mid-Day Meal Workers' Union Manipur has asserted that they will not take the honorarium if the government releases the pending honorarium for only two months.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan here on Monday, Union president Y Indrani Devi pointed out that presently cooks/ chefs of feast (Ushop) are given Rs 1000 for per work day.
However, cooks of mid-day meal scheme in schools in the state are given only Rs 1,000 per month contrary to honorarium in other states increased to Rs 14,000 per month.
As such, the state government has been meting out step-motherly treatment to the mid-day meal cooks, she contended.
While pointing out that the central government had already released the honorarium amount of mid-day meal workers to the state government in time, Indrani alleged that the state government has been withholding the honorarium amount.
While reiterating the demand for releasing the pending honorarium for 19 months and to indrease their honorarium amount in view of the changing times, she cautioned of launching protest if their demand is not fulfilled.
