48 dogs rescued, two arrested

Imphal, September 07 2021:
A total of 48 dogs-were rescued on Tuesday by a joint team of Sugnu police station and Singtom out post at Serou Lamkhai area along the Sugnu-Chakpikarong road.
According to a police report, the dogs were being transported from Gamphazawl village of Chandel district to Churachandpur district in a Tata DI driven by one N Jamsonthang (42), son of Chinkhanpau Tangnuam of Churachandpur district.
Another person identified as Zionthang Hmar (43), son of late Thanglien Hmar of Ngamkhai Veng, Moreh Ward No.8 in Tengnoupal district was also travelling in the same vehicle.
As a report filed by Sugnu PS ASI Md Aminul Haque, information was received about transportation of dogs in cruel manner and consequently the team intercepted the vehicle (MN02 6038) loaded with the dogs.
A case has been registered under provisions of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, i960 while both the individuals along with the vehicle and the dogs handed over to Sugnu PS.
The dogs were later handed over to State Welfare Board Animal Shelter, Porompat after a hearing at Judicial Magistrate First Class, Thoubal court during which the court was informed that there were no proper place and facilities in the police station for taking care of the rescued dogs.
