Wreath-laying ceremonies conducted in Tengnoupal

Assam Rifles conducted a wreath-laying ceremony at its Tengnoupal facility to pay tribute to seven gallant soldiers of the unit who lost their lives in a fire fight during "Op Hifazat" in the state on September 6, 1992 .
According to PRO IGAR (S), on September 6, 1992, during a relocation, the AR convoy came under attack by insurgents with gunfire and an IED explosion.
Havildar Patigan Dhobi, despite being injured by splinters in his right hand, heroically engaged the attackers with accurate LMG fire, disregarding his personal safety.
In the firefight, Havildar Dhobi and six other soldiers - LKKB Khatri, riflemen RK Tripathi, Lal Dev Yadav, Amarjeet Sharma, Khem Singh, and Ganesh Gurung - were wounded and ultimately sacrificed their lives in service to the nation.
Assam Rifles paid homage to the brave-hearts at the War Memorial, honouring their supreme sacrifice for the nation, the PRO informed in a release.
Another wreath-laying ceremony was held at Sehlon in Chandel district on the same day in honour of naib subedar Babudhan Gurung, who sacrificed his life in a counter insurgency operation in Mizoram on September 6, 1966 .
On September 5, 2024, intelligence reported that Mizo National Front militants were causing trouble in Champhai, Mizoram.
In response, a patrol led by naib subedar Babudhar Gurung, the post commander of Champhai COB, was dispatched by the 1st Assam Rifles Battalion which came under heavy fire, Naib subedar Gurung bravely led the counterattack, despite being severely injured, and ultimately made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
For his courage and sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the Surya Chakra, the release added.
