Jiribam, November 05 2021:
The Jiri unit of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has appealed to all concerned not to call bandh/blockade along National Highway-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) without valid reason particularly ahead of Ningol Chakkouba festival.
According to DESAM Jiri district council president laishram Bilax Meitei, imposition of bandh/blockade along NH-37 read has been a regular feature every year especially in the run-up to the Ningol Chakkouba festival and such agitations not only smacks of ulterior motive but affect movement of people for the festival between Jiribam, Cachar and Imphal.
He also said that calling bandh/blockade during the festival every year might even affect relation between hills and valley people.
While urging government to take precautionary measures to avert bandh/blockade during Ningol Chakkouba festival, the DESAM president also appealed to 'brothers and sisters' of Noney who are demanding compensation to think twice before calling bandh/blockade during festival time.
