Army rescues Meetei duo from Kuki mob

Imphal, August 02 2024:
Two labourers belonging to Meetei community were rescued by the Indian Army from a Kuki mob while trying to take them away.
The two labourers have been identified as Konthoujam James (41), son of late Gouramani of Awang Khunou, and Laishram Sundar (39), son of late Manglemjao of Khangabok Meisnam Leikai.
According to James, he received assignment for installing ceilings at Leimakhong military station from a friend.
He and Sundar went there for the work in a car but inadvertently drove past the location and were waylaid by Kuki men and women.
The mob tried to take them away in their vehicle which they resisted and suffered minor injuries in the scuffle.
In the meantime, Army personnel came and rescued them from the mob and took them to the Army camp.
Later, Sekmai police station's OC inspector Deepak came there and took them away from the Army camp.
They were taken to RIMS for medical examination, he said and clarified that some photos of severely assaulted victims that went viral on social media claiming to be them are not true.
