AR pays tribute to fallen heroes

Informing that Assam Rifles honoured its fallen heroes, remembering their bravery and commitment in the line of duty, PRO IGAR (S) said on October 31, 1966, a patrol team from Assam Rifles was ambushed by about 50 MNF insurgents in Khawbung, Mizoram.
The team mounted a herce counterattack, forcing the insurgents to retreat, but not before riflemen Lushai Mohan Chakma, Bhim Bahadur Sunar, Dal Bahadur Thapa, Ashwini Sarkar, Om Prakash Lohar, and Hari Lal Giri made the ultimate sacrifice.
Similarly, on October 31, 2007, an Assam Rifles team led by Major Ravi Vaish was ambushed while patrolling in Ukhrul, Manipur.
Despite their valiant efforts to hold off the insurgents, Major Vaish, riflemen Gyaneshwar Singh, and H Sahini lost their lives.
During the tribute ceremony, the unit's commandant led the wreath-laying and shared accounts of the heroic actions of these soldiers to inspire pride within the ranks.
A guard of honour was accorded by 150 Assam Rifles personnel, paying heartfelt tribute to these bravehearts whose courage continues to inspire the force, said the PRO.
