Eye donation fortnight begins

National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCB & VI) and National Health Mission Manipur jointly conducted the '36th National Eye Donation Fortnight cum Awareness Programme' at State Ophthalmic Cell NPCB & VI, Lamphelpat on Wednesday.
Health services director Dr K Rajo Singh, who was chief guest of the programme held under the theme "Enlight Someone's World, Donate Your Eye', said there are around 15 million blind people and Manipur too has many people having eyesight problem and hence at least one lakh eye donation is required every year.
When a person donates the eyes, it will benefit two people and hence every family should acknowledge importance of donating eye as it is one of the important organs of human beings, he said adding that life will be meaningless without eye and hence it is important to protect eye from childhood days.
The fortnight event was also attended by director (Family Welfare Services) Paozachiin Guite and Health Services additional director Dr Khoisnam Sasheekumar Mangang.
