Minorities' Rights Day observed

The Minorities' Rights Day observance was jointly organised by Writers Union, Imphal and United Meitei Pangal Committee (UMPC), Manipur at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday.
The commemorative programme was attended by Lilong Haoreibi College principal Prof Md Abdul Sattar Shah, Writers' Union president Dr Syed Ahmed, UMPC president Maheiyuddin Phundreimayum, Writers' Union advisor SM Sheikh and UMPC advisor Islam Makakcha as presidium members.
In his address, UMPC general secretary Raees Ahamed Tampak stated that the purpose of the function was to raise awareness among the religious minority groups, particularly the Meitei Pangal, about the rights guaranteed to minorities under the Constitution of India.
The 20th Minorities Rights Day is not being observed at the state level due to the current situation in the state but aims to discuss various welfare schemes and the rights available to the minority community, as well as to assess whether these rights are being properly received and implemented, he said.
