Governor, CM greet on Anant Chaturdashi

Imphal, September 08 2022: Governor La Ganesan and chief minister N Biren Singh on Thursday extended their warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur, the Jain community in particular, on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi, which is observed as 'Vegetarian Day'.

In his message, Gover nor Ganesan said that Anant Chaturdashi is a special festival, observed and celebrated among the Jain and Hindu communities across the world to promote love and compassion.

Meanwhile, CM Biren said that Lord Mahavira, the founder of Jainism led an austere life of Ahimsa and had a firm belief that no harm should be caused to any living creature.

As such, his followers are one of the greatest advocates of vegetarianism and follow the dietary customs of self-control and purity of mind and spirit, he added.

"Although diet is personal choice derived from one's custom, tradition, personal taste and habit, it is a fact that vegetarian diets are amongst the healthiest diets for man's physical, mental and spiritual development," Biren said.
