Thoubal, August 08 2024:
Members of Thoubal District Cook Union took out a rally on Thursday to exert pressure on the government to implement their demand for increasing honorarium for Mid-Day Meal cooks by taking a resolution in the on-going session of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Speaking on the sidelines of the rally, All Manipur Cook Union, Thoubal branch leader Kangabam Malaya pointed out that the honorarium paid to cooks who have been working under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme for over 20 years is no longer commensurate with the changing times.
Even the meagre honorarium of Rs 1000 has not been paid for over 15 months, putting the workers in a difficult situation, she pointed out, while urging to increase the honorarium amount to Rs 10000 per month and address other grievances of the cooks at the earliest, as had already been highlighted to the Thoubal deputy commissioner.
She also called for discussing other demands of All Manipur Cook Union during the on-going session of the Assembly and addressing the same at the earliest.
