Ukhrul, September 07 2021:
Manipur Hill Journalists' Union (MHJU) on Tuesday organised a low-key function to commemorate its 38th Foundation Day at Manipur Press Club in Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, MHJU vice president Lalmalsawm Sellate greeted the members and informed that the event was kept low-key due to the current Covid protocols.
He said that the pandemic situation has affected the functioning of the Union significantly since last year, and exuded hope for improvement in the situation soon.
He then underscored the need for all hill journalists to work harder and contribute to the growth of press fraternity in hill areas.
Coinciding with the celebration, the members unanimously dissolved the incumbent executive body whose tenure expired earlier this year and subsequently appointed Sellate as caretaker president to look after the Union's affairs until a new executive body is constituted.
Accordingly, the election commission was constituted to conduct the election of a new executive body on October 7 next.
A newly-amended draft of the Union's Constitution was also unanimously approved on the day.
Members of the Union also remembered deceased senior member Thotshang Shaiza and paid floral tribute on his portrait.
Shaiza died due to Covid-19 on June 12 this year.
He served as The Aja Daily Ukhrul correspondent till his final days.
He was also associated with the state's news channels ISTV and Impact TV .
