E Sanahanbi honoured with Manimacha Award

Imphal, February 01 2023: Thokchom Manimacha Memorial Trust has honoured Nata Sankirtana artiste Elangbam Sanahanbi, popularly known as Wabagai Sanahanbi, with the presentation of Sanskrit Ratna (Nata Sankirtana) Manimacha Award on Tuesday.

The award consisting of Rs 10,000 in cash, citation and shawl was presented on the occasion of 12th death anniversary observance of Thokchom Manimacha held at Shri Shri Jaganath Dev Mandir, Singjamei Makha Chongtham Leikai, here, on Tuesday.

The award has been donated by Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation Manipur joint secretary Thokchom Dhanakumar.

JN Manipur Dance Academy Imphal director Pukhrambam Bilash, national awardee Thangsabam Ashangbi, national awardee Lakhpati, Rajarshi Foundation chief advisor B Amusana attended the event as members of the dais.

Speaking on the occasion, Trust founder Takhellambam Irabat recounted that Thokchom Manimacha was a well-known singer, who advocated for women empowerment.

Many of her songs including Basak and Nimai Sanyas have been uploaded on YouTube, he said.

He also informed that the death anniversary is being observed m four different locations.
