Land, identity, rights of tribals discussed

Kuki Students' Organization (KSO), Twibul Lhang (Kangchup and Leimakhong area) organised a one-day seminar on 'Land, identity and rights: The tribals in Manipur (issues and challenges)' at Kangchup Area community hall on Friday.
According to KSO Twibul block, the seminar participated by several experts later arrived at various declarations and resolutions.
One of the declarations said that the secretariat revenue department should transfer land records of three sub-divisions namely Kangpokpi, Saikul and Kangchup Geljang block bifurcated from Saitu Gamphazol to the respective department/ authority concerned.
It also steadfastly resolved to protect and safeguard the tribal rights and privileges in accordance with the Forest Rights Act, 2006.Former MP BD Behring Anal, ADC Sadar Hills caretaker chairman Haokhol al Hangshing and Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association vice-chairman Lunthang Haokip were resource persons of the seminar.
While BD Behring spoke on tribal rights and challenges, Haokholal deliberated on ADC Acts and its functions and Lunthang Haokip on chiefs' rights and its impact.
A discussion session was also held after the seminar where various queries raised by the participants were responded to and discussed.
