20th Students' Martyrdom Day to be observed: MSF

Imphal, July 20 2024: Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) is going to observe the 20th Students' Martyrdom Day on August 16 in honour of 'Athouba' Pebam Chittaranjan, who committed self-immolation on August 15, 2004 and sacrificed his life on August 16, 2004, demanding removal of AFSPA, 1958 from all of Northeastern states.

A per a release, the observance will begin with rendition of 'Yaikairol' at 6 am at MSF headquarters, which will be followed by paying of floral tributes to the bust of Pebam Chittaranjan at Students' Martyrdom Complex, Bishnupur and again at Bishnupur Bazar, where he took up the extreme step, after which a public meet will be held at Kyamba Ningshing Shanglen, Bishnupur.

MSF appealed all to extend their support and join the observance.

On this day, public ares also urged to light a candle at the entrance of their respective houses in the evening to pay respect to P Chitranjan's supreme sacrifice, it added.
