Seed sowing festival "Luira Phanit" commences

Luira Phanit, an annual seed sowing festival began with vibrant cultural displays and traditional games at the Ningthi Ground, Ukhrul district.
Luira Phanit is a two-day festival marking the beginning of the seed sowing festival and the start of annual agriculture activities of the village.
The festival is being organised byNingthi Village Authority & Long executives.
Social worker AS Pamreiso Shimray graced the two-day festival by hoisting the village flag as the chief guest of the inaugural function.
Speaking on the occasion, Pamreiso expressed the "Luira Phanit" festival as an indispensable part of the community to protect and preserve the culture.
He stated that the celebration should not only be confined in agricultural activities but also sown the seed of love & unity to progress together.
"Religion and culture have their own important aspects in human life, and should not be interpreted differently," stated Pamreiso.
The chief guest extended gratitude to Ningthi Ngasan Long for their enthusiastic effort in preserving and reviving the dying culture of the village.
The Ningthi village headman NS Shimray performed the ceremonial act and ritual to mark the beginning of the seed sowing season and the start of annual agricultural activities of the village.
While the better half of the Headman Ningtonphy Shimray distributed seeds to all the households to begin the seed sowing.
The villagers, informed that the rope used for tug of war broken during the competition shows a good beginning and expected bountiful harvest this year.
A number of competition events such as archery, haola, bamboo and pheichak have been lined up for concluding day tomorrow.
It is worth mentioning that the Tangkhul community celebrates the seed sowing festival as per the geographical locations and the climatic conditions of the regions.
Ningthi village is about 20 km away from Kamjong district headquarters.
