Pre-merger status only option for restoring peace: Yelhoumee Chaokhat Lup

Imphal, August 08 2023: Yelhoumee Yaifa Chaokhat Lup has opined that restoring pre-merger status in Manipur is the only option for restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.

In a release, Yelhoumee Yaifa Chaokhat Lup IPR secretary E Balajit expressed apprehension over the inactivity of Assam Rifles when Meitei are targeted by Kuki narco-terrorist since May 3.He condemned the killing of three Meitei civilians at their own homes in Kwakta, bulldozing of around 100 Meitei houses right under the nose of Assam Rifles and the harsh atrocities meted out to womenfolk who objected to burial of Kukis at Torbung Bangla.

Denouncing the silence of the central government over the conflict in Manipur which is going on for more than three months, he maintained that there is no other way than restoration of pre-merger status in the state so as to ensure peace and normalcy.

The Lup along with Meeteis in Assam will jointly launch protest, he continued, while urging Meetei diasporas to extend co-operation.
