AR holds tribute ceremonies

Assam Rifles conducted a wreath-laying ceremony to honour rifleman Lukhis Lama of 4 Assam Rifles, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
On November 7, 1957, a column of one junior commissioned officer and 11 other ranks from 4 Assam Rifles was assigned convoy protection duty along Mao Road in Manipur.
During the mission, the convoy was ambushed by insurgents.
During the firefight, rifleman Lukhis Lama sustained serious injuries and subsequently succumbed, making the ultimate sacrifice for his country, according to an IGAR (S) press release.
The Assam Rifles paid tribute to the braveheart at the War Memorial, acknowledging his courage and selflessness.
On the same day at Moreh in Tengnoupal district, a wreath-laying ceremony was held to honour rifleman Prem Singh Thapa who made the supreme sacrifice on November 7, 1957, during an operation against Naga insurgents in Purr, Naga Hills, it added.
