IDPs stage sit-in protest

Imphal, December 01 2024: Internally displaced persons (IDPs) putting up at the Tairenpokpi Lower Primary School and Phayeng High School relief camps staged a sit-in protest at Phayeng Awang Leikai Market demanding the arrest of Kuki militants involved in abduction and killing, repeal of AFSPA, and arrangements for return to their homes, on Sunday.

The protestors carried placards with messages such as "MLAs should resign if they can't govern", "Arrest and prosecute Kuki terrorists responsible for killing women and children", "Halt steps house IDPs in in temporary facilities", "Repeal AFSPA from Manipur", and "We shall decide our own fate" .

Speaking on the sidelines, one Angom Thoibi pointed out that in-spite of government authorities claiming about semblance of peace, Kuki militants continue to attack Meetei villagers.

She strongly condemned conduct of combing operations in the valley while Kuki militants attack from the hills.
