Imphal, June 01 2022:
Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) has urged the government to make it mandatory for all shops in Khwairamband Keithel area to put up display boards with shop names and numbers.
A team of PPCM led by its convener carried out an inspec -tion drive of shops, especially groceries, in Thangal Keithel area on Wednesday and made the traders aware on various issues related with commercial activities.
In a statement, PPCM informed that they came across illegal and unethical practices like underweight balance, not displaying price of items, not providing cash memo and tax evasion activities during the drive.
Many of the shops in Imphal city do not display shop names and numbers, which is violation of law and yet the IMC is turning a blind eye to such illegal and unethical practices, the statement said, while urging the government to enforce the rules and make it mandatory for shops to display relevant details.
Expressing concern over the use of underweight balances, PPCM also questioned the credibility and functioning of weight and measure department in enforcing proper regulations to be followed by the shops.
The statement further informed that PPCM will continue similar drives in different market areas.
