NIIT Imphal in co-ordination with the Directorate of Science and Technology (DST) Government of Manipur is organizing World Computer Literacy Day observation on December 2 by providing free computer courses and live demonstrations at different venues.
Adon Vaiphei, head of the Imphal centre said that the NIIT has anointed December 2 as World Computer Literacy Day in connection with the centre's 20th anniversary.
The observation is being organized to bring computer literacy among the masses.
He said that a special course titled SWIFT Jyoti which will cover the fundamentals of computer, Internet, e-mail and MS Office will be offered free of cost to the students besides supplying study materials.
He said that the intake of students will be 124 out of which 20 will be reserved for nominations from orphanage, charitable homes etc.
Another 74 will be selected from school toppers of class VIII and XI and 30 are reserved for nominations by elected members (municipal councils).
One councillor can make one or two nominations.
On the other hand, DST has identified eight centres for providing one day free computer awareness courses and live demonstrations.
Internet browsing with guidance facilities will be available at CEDTI Akampat, Manipur University's Department of Computer Science, Cyber Cafe, MBC complex and two Community Information Centres at Keirao Bitra and Sawombung blocks.
