The Election Commission of India has recognized Manipur National Conference (MNC) as a political party of the state, according to former chief minister W Nipamacha Singh, president of newly formed MNC.
Nipamacha, speaking to IFP said that the MNC has commenced preparations for fighting the ensuing 8th Assembly elections.
He said, for the recognition of MNC as a political party an application has been submitted to Election Commission of India on November 9 last by Laishom Lalit, working president of MNC, and the Election Commission of India after due consideration of the application conducted hearing yesterday and accorded recognition to the MNC as a political party.
He also said, a copy of the recognition order of ECI signed by Secretary ECI KJ Rao was faxed to his residence.
He further added that, as MNC has been given recognition certificate by the ECI the party will intensify preparations to fight the election adding that its symbol will be traditional house of Manipur.
He said the MNC will be allied with CPI in the elections.
He added that policies and programmes of the party will be made known to the public soon after the arrival of Laishom Lalit, who is in Delhi now.
