Imphal, November 12:
Not deterred by the inclement weather, the Democratic People's Party (DPP) today set rolling its street-corner campaign against the promulgation of the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO) and for bringing about a change in the prevailing poll behavior of the electorate "for a new Manipur".
The street-corner campaign started at 3 pm, at Uripok Chakrikom area on the Uripok-Kangchup road with several social workers and DPP youth members also taking part in it.
It also covered the Keisampat junction area.
Addressing the first meeting, held at Uripok Chakrikom, LC Somorendra, general secretary (organization) of the party, and Dr Ksh Bimola Devi, social worker, who were the main speakers, stressed on how the general public of the state have been at the receiving end of draconian laws like the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.Attacking the government for mismanagement and maladministration, the speakers observed that the government has pushed the state economy to a tight spot wherein the employees are not getting their salaries on time.
The disorderly civic condition of the state capital, Imphal city, including the poor drainage system, ill-constructed roads and heaps of garbage, is there for one and all to see and draw judgements, they said, holding the MLAs responsible for these conditions and charging them of breaching the people's faith.
The second meeting was conducted on the roadside near the Keisampat junction along the Tiddim road.
In both the meetings, the speakers addressed the gathering from a mini truck raised as a podium.
