Two sentenced to 7 yrs and 10 yrs RI

Even as a man who abducted and raped a minor girl from Kumbi was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment by District and Sessions Court, Bishnupur, the same Court awarded rigorous jail term of 10 years to another man in the murder case of his own wife today.
Nongmeithem Gunamani alias Allu Singh s/o (L) N Sanjeet of Kumbi Mayai Leikai abducted a girl along with her friend on August 17, 2011 and raped her by taking her to his house located at Kumbi Setupur, under Moirang police station.
Police arrested Gunamani against FIR No 32 (8) 2011 of Kumbi Police Station under Section 366/376/368/34 IPC after a written complaint was filed by the rape survivor's family at Kumbi Police Station on August 21, 2011 .
Trial of the case began on December 9, 2013 after the case was shifted from JMIC to Sessions Court, Bishnupur on November 23, 2013 .
During the trial of the case, 15 prosecution witnesses gave their statements at the Court.
The Court convicted Gunamani under Section 363 and 376 of IPC on August 20 last.
In today's sentence hearing, the Court sentenced the convict five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 under Section 363 of IPC and seven years with a fine of Rs 7000 under Section 376 of IPC.
The Court however decreed that all the sentences awarded to the accused have to be run concurrently and the period of time which the accused has spent in the judicial custody during the investigation period shall be deducted.
In another case, the same Court sentenced Heisnam Joykumar Singh s/o H Ibobi of Keibul Mayai Leikai to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment in the murder case of his own wife.
Elder brother of the victim filed a written complaint at Moirang Police Station against Joykumar and his mother H Maichon after she was found dead inside the house of her husband on July 14, 2000 .
Trial of the case began on August 5, 2005 at the Court of CJM Bishnupur before it was shifted to the Sessions Court Manipur West.
Later, the case was again transferred to Sessions Court Bishnupur on December 11, 2013 .
14 prosecution witnesses and four defence witnesses deposed before the Court during the trial process.
On August 20 last, the Court convicted Joykumar under Section 498-A and 302 of IPC and acquitted his mother H Maichon and discharged her bail bond as well.
In today's sentence hearing, the Court awarded three year's imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 for the offence he committed under Section 498-A and 10 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10000 under Section 302 .
However, the Court pronounced that all the sentences have to be run concurrently and the period which the accused had already spent in the Judicial custody during the time of investigation should be deducted.
