COVID-19 death toll jumps by five to take tally to 353

Imphal, December 29 2020:
As many as five persons including one under home isolation have succumbed to COVID-19 during the last 24 hours, pushing the State's COVID-19 death toll to 353 .
The latest victims included a 57-year old female from Churachandpur, a 90 year old male from Tamenglong, 70 year old male from Imphal West, 90 year old female from Imphal West and a 70 year old female from Kakching.
The 90 year old male from Tamenglong district was under home isolation while the others expired at Churachandpur district hospital and JNIMS Hospital.
Meanwhile, swab samples were collected today from 22 family members of the student from Imphal East who returned from the UK and was tested positive for COVID-19 .
While the student has been isolated and lodged at RD Wing, his family members have been directed to confine themselves within their home until their test results are known.
The swab sample of the student should be tested at National Institute of Virology, Pune but it could not be sent today as no courier recognised by ICMR arrived today.
The sample may be sent to Pune tomorrow.
COVID-19 test results of the other student who returned from the UK and his family members would be known tomorrow, according to information received from Health Department.
A press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang informed that 36 people including two personnel of CAPF were tested positive for the virus at JNIMS, RIMS, Imphal East, Mother's Care Hospital, Hillside Hospital, Lamjingba Hospital, Escent Diagnostics, Raj Medicity, Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and Babina Diagnostics.
The civilians who have been tested positive are residents of Imphal West (9), Imphal East (16), Thoubal (1), Bishnupur (2), Tamenglong (4), Kangpokpi (1) and Churachandpur (1) .
All of them are locals who do not have any significant travel history.
On the other hand, 43 COVID-19 positive people were discharged during the last 24 hours from home isolation (20), JNIMS (3), RIMS (7), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (2), Lanva (1), Kakching (1), Shija Hospital (6) and Raj Medicity (3) .
The cumulative number of positive cases is 28,096 (general population 24,719 and Central security personnel 3,377) .
It includes 1,222 active cases (general population 1,095 and Central security personnel 127) and 26,521 discharged cases (general population 23,275 and Central security personnel 3,246).The recovery rate stands at 94.39 per cent.
