Imphal, December 28 2024: The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and the Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) have vehemently condemned the shooting and injuring of Impact TV's video journalist Leimapokpam Kabichandra Meitei at Thamnapokpi, Imphal East today.

AMWJU and EGM held a joint meeting at Manipur Press Club today and strongly condemned the act of targeting journalists.

Combatants killing or injuring each other in battlefields is understandable but targeting journalists is highly condemnable, AMWJU and EGM said in a joint press release.

There have been several instances of journalists suffering casualties in the course of the protracted Manipur crisis but deliberately targeting video journalist L Kabichandra Meitei who was wearing a PRESS vest is a matter of serious concern, it said.

AMWJU and EGM then appealed to all journalists to take utmost care while collecting reports from frontlines.

The two bodies also conveyed gratitude to all CSOs, student bodies and individuals who extended financial assistance towards treatment of Kabichandra and expressed solidarity to the injured journalist.

AMWJU and EGM also prayed for speedy recovery of L Kabichandra.
