Scribes protest bomb threat

A one day sit in protest was held at Keishampat to condemn the planting of a hand grenade at the office of PANDAM evening daily by the journalist fraternity of the State under the aegis of Editors' Guild, Manipur from 10 am till 4 pm yesterday.
A total of about 200 journalists joined the protest including representatives of various associations and organisations and political party leaders.
It can be recalled that KCP-MP informed about the bomb being planted through a phone and the bomb disposal squad found it above a steel almirah inside the office on December 26 .
The editorial section of various newspapers condemned the act and ISTV and Impact TV stopped broadcasting news programme on December 27 .

The Manipur Hills Journalists Union also staged a similar protest demonstration at Churachandpur district headquarters and left the editorial space of the newspapers blank for the day.
MLA and general secretary of BJP Manipur Pradesh, Th Biswajit Singh condemned the planting of the hand grenade at PANDAM office creating panic to the media persons.
Such incidents happen because the State Government does not give attention to media houses, he alleged and urged the authorities to take up measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
United NGOs Mission Manipur also called on the State and the Central Governments to investigate the hand grenade planted at PANDAM office and condemned the attempt to attack media persons and news organisations.
UNM-M recalled the threats and attacks on many editors and reporters and urged the State Government and at the Centre to investigate the matter and punish the perpatrator/s according to the law of the land.
It also appealed the group to stop such threats.
