Imphal, August 28 2022: Deman-ding extension of constitu- tional safeguard to the Meitei/Meetei community by way of enlisting them in the Scheduled Tribe category, a protest demonstration was staged today at Ima Panthoibi Sanglen, Thangmeiband Maisnam Leikai under the aegis of the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM).

Speaking at the protest site, STDCM general secretary K Bhogen urged the State Government to send the necessary recommendation to the Central Govern- ment for enlistment of Meitei/Meetei in the ST category.

He decried that the State Government has been maintaining stoic silence even as STDCM has been pursuing the same demand for decades.

Saying that the protest demonstration was staged in pursuit of the same demand to enlist Meitei/Meetei in ST category, Bhogen informed that a similar protest demonstration was staged on Friday at Keishampat Lairembi Sanglen.

Informing that similar protest demonstrations would be staged at different localities in the coming days, the STDCM general secretary warned that more intense modes of agitation would be launched if the State Government still chooses to remain indifferent to the issue.
