The two-day visit of Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Road Transport and Highways, (Retd) General Vijay Kumar Singh concluded today with his departure from Imphal International Airport at 4.60 pm, said Airports Authority of India (AAI) in a release.
On his arrival yesterday afternoon, the Minister of State was accorded a warm welcome by Works Minister, Th Biswajit, Additional Chief Secretary (Transport), P Vaiphei and a delegation of Airports Authority of India led by the Regional Executive Director (NE Region), Ravi Kant and the Airport Director, Imphal International Airport, P Lokanadh, the release said.
Shortly after his arrival, the Minister chaired a meeting at the airport and it was attended by AAI officials and a delegation of State Road Transport Department headed by P Vaiphei, Addl Chief Secretary; N Bandana, Addl Secretary (Transport) and Nevedita Lairenlakpam, Director of Transport, it said.
During the meeting, Regional Executive Director, NER presented a slide show on the progress of various projects undertaken by AAI in the North Eastern Region and pointed out that projects are running behind schedule due to the pandemic, it said.
The Minister of State had also advised the officials to speed up the pace of all the projects in view of the improving situation, the release said.
The Minister also discussed at length the upcoming New Terminal Building at Imphal Airport and a virtual 3D animated walk-through video of the proposed terminal building and its surroundings was presented during the meeting.
The Minister had suggested to focus more on the local flavour in the design of the terminal building and emphasized that one should feel that one has landed in Manipur when one steps into the terminal building, it said.
He (VK Singh) has also discussed at length about the development of heliports and increasing air connectivity in the region, the release added.
