Minor 'rape victim' succumbs, villagers protest

The six-year-old girl who has been battling for her life after a 14-year-old juvenile allegedly sexually assaulted her on February 14, died at RIMS hospital today.
The incident of alleged brutal rape and sexual assault occurred at Chinikon village under Bishnupur police station on February 14 last.
It is said that the girl suffered grievous injuries in her urinary tract and intestine as the boy allegedly inserted a hard object in her private part after he raped the girl twice.
Soon after the news of the minor's demise spread across the village, a large number of villagers came to Imphal and took out a rally from RIMS hospital towards CM's bungalow today.
The angry villagers stated that they would never claim the girl's body until and unless the accused is awarded a befitting punishment according to the law of the land.

An angry woman said that the girl was abandoned in a pool of blood after the boy committed the crime.
Although, she had been undergoing treatment at RIMS hospital, the girl passed away due to grievous internal injuries at around 4 am today, she said.
The rallyists held placards demanding capital punishment for the 'rapist' .
The protesters were blocked by a police team led by Imphal West Additional SP (Operations) Th Bikramjit and Lamphel police station SDPO RK Saklemba at Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai on RIMS road.
They were then diverted towards Uripok Canteen road from RIMS crossing saying that nobody is allowed to take out protest rally on RIMS road as the route is used by many patients who need medical emergency.
When the rallyists reached Uripok Canteen crossing, they were again barricaded by another large police team including women personnel.
Later, the angry villagers staged demonstration by sitting in the middle of the busy Uripok Kangchup road and blocked traffic.
Police later picked up some JAC representatives to go along with them to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister regarding the incident.
The memorandum demanded the Chief Minister to take up necessary steps to punish the culprit within a stipulated time.
It also demanded that the matter be discussed in the ongoing Assembly session for speedy action.
The memorandum also demanded the Chief Minister to institute an independent enquiry to investigate whether there was any negligence on the part of RIMS.
It demanded that necessary enquiry be done whether the girl was given treatment in the ICU ward of the hospital.
The JAC representatives returned to Uripok without submitting the memorandum as they could not meet the Chief Minister due to CLP meeting.
Then the protesters shouted slogans against the local MLA and State Government before they returned to RIMS morgue.
The villagers said that they would intensify their agitation until their demand is fulfilled.
It may be mentioned that the 14-year-old juvenile allegedly raped the six-year-old girl at Chinikon village on February 14 night.
The girl who was staying in her aunt's house at the village went missing from around 6 pm that night.
After a frantic search of around two hours, the girl was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood with grevious injuries in her private part at a paddy field located near the village.
After a team of Bishnupur women police station picked up the juvenile boy, the Court sent him to Juvenile Correction Centre after his family members submitted necessary papers claiming his juvenile status.
Medical examinations of both the girl and boy were conducted at Department of Forensic Medicine (RIMS) on February 15 .
Rongmei Lu Phuam during a press meet had claimed that the teenager boy attempted to murder the girl after raping her twice.
A representative of Rongmei Lu Phuam alleged that the boy abandoned the girl assuming that she was dead.
